Charly Boy: ‘My Daughters Don’t Need Approval to Be Lesbians’

Veteran Nigerian entertainer and social commentator Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has spoken openly about his daughters’ sexuality, saying they do not need his approval to live their lives as they choose.

In an interview reported by Punch, Charly Boy revealed that two of his daughters are lesbians. He acknowledged that the revelation was initially difficult for him to process but said his perspective changed over time as he came to accept that his adult children must ultimately make their own decisions.

The entertainer explained that although parents may have expectations for their children, they cannot dictate every aspect of their adult lives. He said maintaining a loving relationship with his daughters and seeing them happy were more important than insisting they conform to his personal expectations.

Charly Boy’s remarks have attracted attention and discussion online, touching on broader debates around parenting, sexuality and acceptance in Nigerian families, particularly in a society where same-sex relationships remain a highly sensitive subject.
