Professor Anthony Kila has reportedly been suspended from his position as Pro-Chancellor of Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU) following controversy over his professorial credentials.
The development comes days after an investigation by Premium Times questioned Kila’s use of the title “Professor” and his claim to the designation Jean Monnet Professor of Strategy and Development.
The investigation reportedly found no clear evidence from a recognised university confirming that Kila had been awarded the professorial rank. Questions were also raised about the institution Kila identified as having awarded him the professorship.
Kila has rejected the allegations, maintaining that he is legitimately entitled to the title and disputing the description of him as a “fake professor.”
Following the controversy, MCIU said Kila had been asked to step aside while the issues surrounding his credentials are investigated and the relevant facts established.
The university has reportedly also removed his profile and photographs from its website as the controversy continues.
The matter has attracted further attention after the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) reportedly began looking into the allegations.
Kila’s suspension and the ongoing investigation have now placed fresh focus on the credentials of senior academics and the responsibility of universities to verify such claims.
NewsMaximum will continue to follow the development as the investigation progresses.
