Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye arrived in Uyo on Friday morning after his delayed appearance in camp attracted attention following his participation at Milan Fashion Week.
Okoye was the last of Nigeria’s 24 invited players to report ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar, having missed the team’s training sessions earlier in the week.
His absence became a talking point after photos emerged of the Udinese goalkeeper at Milan Fashion Week, where he participated in activities connected to his Italian club and was also photographed alongside American rapper Cardi B.
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, however, explained that Udinese had requested permission for Okoye to undertake club-related activities before joining the national team.
Despite eventually arriving in Uyo, the 27-year-old was left out of the matchday squad against Madagascar, with Stanley Nwabali starting in goal as Nigeria secured a 2-1 comeback victory.
Okoye will now hope to return to contention as Nigeria continue their AFCON qualifying campaign.
