Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has renewed his campaign to show that Nigeria is cheaper to live in than Western countries, this time taking his argument to a market in Kaduna, where he shopped for food items.
Omokri had earlier told Channels TV that an individual in Nigeria could feed themselves for a day on ₦3,000. He argued that while $2 a day is considered the poverty line in Western countries, the same standard should not apply in Nigeria because the cost of living is considerably lower.
To support his argument, Omokri visited a Kaduna market, where he was seen checking the prices of food items. Five tubers of yam were priced at ₦9,000, while a container of oranges cost ₦1,500. He also asked about the price of onions.
