Nigerian entertainer Carter Efe defeated singer Portable by unanimous decision in their highly publicised celebrity boxing match held on May 1, 2026, at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos. All three judges scored the bout 27 -30 in Efe’s favour, ending Portable’s previous unbeaten run in celebrity boxing, where he had earlier defeated Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington.
While the result generated excitement, much of the online conversation focused on the quality of the fight itself. Many pundits argued that the contest “resembled grappling more than boxing,” pointing to awkward clinches, inconsistent officiating, and a general lack of adherence to standard boxing rules. Reports also described irregular round timing and chaotic stoppages.
A report by Legit.ng highlighted a viewer’s complaint about what she described as a “rabbit punch”, which she believed should have led to Carter Efe’s immediate disqualification – adding to the debate over the fight’s legitimacy.
Portable, reacting after the loss, insisted he was “robbed”, accusing Carter Efe of using illegal tactics and alleging that his own punches were not properly counted. He also argued that Efe’s height and reach gave him an advantage.
Despite the controversy, the night brought unexpected personal news for Portable. Shortly after the match, he revealed that his wife had gone into labour while he was in the ring – and that he welcomed a baby boy after the fight. The announcement softened reactions from some fans, who congratulated him despite the defeat.
The Carter Efe vs. Portable showdown has since dominated social media, not only for the upset victory but also for the broader debate about the credibility and structure of Nigeria’s growing celebrity boxing scene.
