African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has challenged the administration of President Bola Tinubu to identify a major infrastructure project completed since it assumed office.
Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, made the remarks on Friday while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He questioned the government’s record on infrastructure development and argued that the administration had yet to demonstrate the level of project delivery he associated with the first term of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, the Abuja-Kaduna railway had been completed during Buhari’s first tenure, and he challenged the Tinubu administration to point to a comparable railway or other major project it had completed. He also referred to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway while questioning the scale and cost associated with the project.
Amaechi further criticised the Tinubu administration over what he described as a higher level of corruption compared with the Buhari government. He said corruption during Buhari’s tenure was also present but, in his view, was less visible because those involved allegedly made greater efforts to conceal it.
“If you compare the two, you will think there was no corruption under Buhari’s government,” Amaechi said, maintaining that the alleged corruption under the current administration was more apparent.
Responding to questions about his own tenure as a minister under Buhari, Amaechi rejected allegations of corruption against him. He said he had consistently maintained that he was not corrupt and challenged anyone with evidence to prove otherwise.
“I will not near corruption, I will not get close to corruption,” he said.
